dreams

Previously I had mentioned my change of role at El Refugio from Program Director to Project Development. As I was saying, I am THRILLED about this new role because I’ll be able to put my gifts to work, developing El Refugio’s future programs. I’m particularly excited about one of these projects, one that’s at the very heart of El Refugio’s vision. It’s been amazing to witness the transformation of the El Refugio program over the past three years. I remember the days when I facilitated almost every single group that came to El Refugio, those days are long gone. Today there is a group of 20-30 young Ecuadorians volunteering their time to be a part of the ministry in our Leadership Development Program. These kids are in a process of being exposed to outdoor adventure ministry, being discipled and training to facilitate retreats and impact lives for Christ. In the course of this process there are two young guys who have sensed a calling in their lives to pursue outdoor ministry as a vocation! They want to do this with their lives! So the question is…what next? Where will they go to get the training they need? The answer to that question is why Beth and I felt such a confirmation that Ecuador is where we need to be. Upon returning to Ecuador in August, we will begin the process of developing an Outdoor Leadership School for people like David Mesa, who feels that God is calling him to a life of ministry. David has a dream of directing a camp one day. (Check out the “dreams” video) The really cool thing about this is how it resonates with our vision of developing a generation of outdoor leaders who will impact lives throughout Latin America. In the last year people from Cuba, Guatemala, Peru, Argentina and Colombia have approached me, all expressing a desire to see outdoor adventure developed in their countries! Our vision is to see leaders from all these places come to El Refugio to be equipped and empowered for outdoor ministry, and to support them as they launch new ministries all over the continent. It is SO COOL to play just a small part in what God is doing in South America.

GREAT creative site and really powerful dreams. You have no way to know how much God can use that little seed of a dream to change the world. Proud to be your DAD!
