Transition seems to be the only constant thing in our lives. The Flux. The Law of Undulation. I guess it’s a good thing that we’re in constant motion; that our circumstances are ever changing, that there seems to be endless horizons. I realize that our lives are always changing, but I think that there are times when the shifts and turns are sharper, more distinct and defined. We are navigating some sharp turns these days.

First of all, we are pregnant! What the heck? We have NO IDEA what’s around the corner come October 23rd, when our baby boy is scheduled to join us in the exterior, but we are sooo excited to find out! Beth will be transitioning to MOM mode, while still trying to be involved in a couple ministries that she really enjoys, especially coaching basketball, and I’ll be trying to figure out what being a Father looks like!

Going from couplehood to family mode comes at the same time that some major changes are happening in ministry down in Ecuador. Bob Spoolstra, the director of El Refugio, is wrapping up his time as team leader in just under a year. As a team we have entered into transition mode as we navigate the future of El Refugio. There has been a lot of discussion surrounding the future and our vision as a ministry. And there have already been some changes made as we head into the next chapter of the El Refugio story. Among those changes is my role at El Refugio. Juan Carlos Cevallos has taken my place as Program Director, overseeing all existing program activity. I am shifting to the role of Project Development, meaning my time will be completely dedicated to the creation and implementation of new programs. I am SO EXCITED about this change, I really feel like I will be operating in my passions and gifts, and that this role puts me on the cutting edge of El Refugio’s future development, exactly where I love to be!

So that’s just a few of the major shifts happening in our world at the moment. As I write this we are packing up and heading for a 3 week visit to friends, family and supporters in California. We’re in the middle of a summer fundraising trip that will run until August 6th.
